KetaKeti school purchases land for extension school

Great news!

A South-Korean organisation erected a big building in Melmachi Ghyang a few years ago. After the erathquake of april  25th 2015 this building was so damaged to organisation abondoned their project and finally put the land up for sale. Our schooldirector Purna Gautam managed to aquire the land plus the reuseable building materials.

KetaKeti and Community Action Nepal both chipped in to provide the funds for the – strategically – important purchase: space for more dorms and classrooms.

Tremendous fundraising effort by St Rembert College Torhout

Hilde Kuypers was present at the final show of “Music For Life” by the College of St Rembert (Torhout, Belgium). She saw happy school directors, a happy atmosphere, motivated teachers and many pupils. Class after class declared their proceedings and the final result was very impressive indeed!

Hilde was very moved and happy as chairwoman of KetaKeti to receive 15 238 EUR for our charity: A very heartfelt ‘Thank You” and “Danjebaat”!

With this amount we can do quite a number of things for the school in Melamchi Ghyang. The re-building (after the April 2015 earthquake) will start soon and this money will help us with infrastructure, furniture and teaching materials.

Well done!

The KetaKeti school in Melamchi Ghyang was founded 32 years ago!

32 years of proper schooling in a rural area. It turned an mostly illiterate village to literacy. Now everybody under 40 can read and write.

Many children experienced that good schooling is the way to a better life.

A big thanks to Sri Purna Gautam who started the school 32 years ago. He still is the headmaster and saw the school grow from a class in the open field to to an institute that teaches to 250 pupils and houses 150 interns. An impressive achievement indeed!

Corin Hardcastle (Yolmo Connect UK) visits KetaKeti

Corin Hardcastle, chair of Yolmo Connect honoured with a visit. We met Corin after the 2015 quake (he was on the spot when it happend). He works mainly on  IT in the Yolmo valley, which includes Melamchi Ghyang . He organised the internet connection in the village and supports the IT courses in the schools in the valley. Corin was recently in Melamchi Ghyang and returns next month.

We learned a lot!

Not an easy life

Some 20 months after the earthquake lots has been done in Melamchi Ghyang … Every time we see new pictures we see progress step by step, despite the enormous hardships.

The people are very flexible, resilient and inventive but alas more is needed: like funds for materials and transport. Don’t forget the Nepali people: they need our support!
